Rudderless 04:27
Rudderless I'm rudderless but I'm on dry land And I'm loving all this sun and sand Maybe I'm too shuffled up to join the band But all this working hard is hardly working And I'm wrapped around the axle again I used to sing for my supper but now I'm starving And if failure is an actual thing Then surrender just may come to be my new exit plan If I'm a scattershot then you're a bird in hand How does it matter much when you lack a plan? You say I’m stumbling while you're trying to dance But your goddamn stubbornness has such a great attention span And I'm wrapped around the axle again Just watching the wheels with hypnotic chagrin And my ripcord is caught on the wing This whiplash merry-go-round is rockin' me to sleep Well I'm rudderless but I'm on dry land And I'm loving all the sun and sand And I'm wrapped around the axle again I’ve lost all connection to my motivation And since failure is an actual thing then survival just may come to be my new exit plan

This Big House (Revisited) This big house is gonna make you lose your mind This big house is gonna do it to you every time Every time I open a door There’s a room I’ve never seen before Every time turn my head The furniture rearranged itself In this old house you'll lose your mind This big house will do it every time Every time I fall asleep I’m awoken by the strangest dreams And every time I hear a sound I cover my head and I hit the ground In this old house you'll lose your mind This big house will do it every time Can you feel the eyes inside her walls? Feel the breath whirling through her antique halls Under the weight of her ceilings The windows are slowly darkening This big house is gonna make you lose your mind Every time I talk out loud Something tells me to keep it down And when I try to step outside The door slams shut and is locked up tight In this old house you'll lose your mind This big house will do it every time

The Grindstone We're living out our days like children's toys All wound up and half annoyed Good little girls and boys I've tried so hard to make amends With all the worthless time we're forced to spend Toiling It's gonna get us in the end Still we're working like a bunch of tools Will we ever get the break that was promised soon? You know the day will come we 're set aside All used up and broke open wide How we tried for a slice of the pie Still I just can't seem to understand The rewards and the punishments When does our happiness land? It's gonna get you in the end Still you're climbing like a bunch of fools Will you ever get the fix that they promised you? Was it worth the trade we made Our best years for a moment in the shade? With all of those aches and pains The grindstone only spins in place First it takes your nose and then your face

Lost In The Woods (Again) Still shuffling through the debris the next explosion is inevitable They say the limits and the boundaries we impose on ourselves are merely theoretical Trying to whittle down infinity is like trying to wave away the air Or to wake up in the morning after falling through your dreams Unsure if you'll ever land We are lost in the woods and I keep searching your face All the feeling is gone if it even existed in the first place They say the obstacles we face are merely symptoms of the baggage we keep Don't it kinda make you wanna grab em' by the throat and hold em' under 'till you're sure they'll never breathe again? Tryin' to whittle down infinity is like trying to water-down a stream Or to wake up in the morning holding onto all the things that you found in your dreams I'm lost in your song and I can't find the beat It seems the notes are all wrong, the bridge lay in the street We are lost in the woods and I've been searching your face All the feeling is gone if it even existed in the first place Take me home... take me home... Nobody says this path would be a piece of cake I'll go back to being lonely you go back to making stupid mistakes I am lost in your song and I keep losing the beat Seems the notes are all wrong, the bridge lay in the street We are lost in the woods and I've been searching your face All the feeling is gone if it even existed in the first place Take me home… take me home... take me home... Take me home... take me home... take me home... Take me home... take me home... take me home...

From the Wreckage Lately time and distance seems like a terrible joke Every night we're hanging on the jailhouse phone While the world outside is melting down the flowers are in bloom I swear that someday we'll be standing in the same room Somewhere in these strange times we're living We found each other in the wreckage and debris Who knew the end of the world could taste so sweet? Gently locked in orbit, through the ether we spin Though the distance is closing the wait is harrowing You came to me in a vision; I've seen you many times before But we were in different stories so you slipped a key under my door Into these strange times we're living Our weary hearts somehow picking up speed Strewn to the ends of the earth by uncertainty Such strange times to live in We pulled each other from the wreckage and debris Who knew the end of the world would taste so sweet? Taste so sweet... taste so sweet Still I wake with a smile all alone in a cell Knowing all of the while you're here with me still Here with me still... In these strange times we're living Our weary hearts somehow picking up speed Strewn to the ends of the earth by uncertainty Such strange times to live in We pulled each other from the wreckage and debris Who knew the end of the world would taste so sweet? Taste so sweet... taste so sweet Chords: Key (A =1 / F#m = 6m) Vs: |: 6m 1 4 4 :| Chr: |: 4 1 5 5 :| 2m7 6m7 5 5 | Chr Tag: |: 4 1 5 5 :|

Magnetic Fields We Both stepped in and held on and then burst open wide Exploding stars are helpless, the edges are always undefined And now I'm turning wrenches far from what needs fixing Your world contained no fences full of beauty and suffering Still I'm waiting for the color to return to the scenery Your allure is pulverizing, absorbing light and slowing time Just how could I brace for impact in the garden of your poor design? Still I'm waiting for the color to return to the scenery My desperate words a bleeding fever while you'd collapse then disappear Your rising sparks would gather motion, illuminating the dogs drawn to your fear On this lonely trail between us I watch my shadow drag a busted crutch The only rules of love and battle to ask for nothing is to ask too much With magnetic fields still pulsing, bending circles from broken lines We were only seeking shelter While all roads are simply searching for a place to die Still we're waiting for the colors to return to the scenery
